NORWOOD MAN DIES OF WOUNDS
Pvt. Robert Smith, Wounded in Holland Oct. 20, Succumbed Nov. 4.

Norwood, Nov. 29--Pvt. Robert Smith, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smith, 29 Baldwin Avenue, a paratrooper who was reported seriously wounded in Holland Oct. 20, died Nov. 4 as a result of wounds received in action, according to the war department telegram from Adj. Gen. J.A. Ulio, received late Tuesday evening by his parents.
Private Smith was born in Norwood, Aug. 16, 1923. He attended the Norwood High school where he was active in athletics and a member of the school basketball team.
He entered service Oct. 13, 1942, and received basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla. He was then transferred to Fort Benning, Ga., where he received his wings and boots as a paratrooper in March, 1943. He was then stationed at Camp McCall, N.C. until he was sent overseas last December.
He was stationed first in Ireland, then in England and went into France on D-Day. He was later sent back to England for a rest before going into Holland where he was wounded.
He is survived by his parents, once sister, Mrs. Hugh (Geraldine) Murphy, and his maternal....(remainder of article not legible).
