Retired Schoolteacher

NORWOOD--Eileen V.. McCormick, 97, formerly of Cottage Street, died early Saturday at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam. Mrs. McCormick retired from Norwood-Norfolk Central school, where she taught sixth grade. She was a resident of Community Nursing Home, Potsdam, and previously had lived at Mayfield Apartments, Potsdam, where she had been the oldest resident. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Potsdam. Born Feb. 7, 1902, in Norwood, daughter of James and Ella Sheehy Maginn Hickey, she graduated from Norwood High School in 1922 and later attended Potsdam Normal School, completing teaching courses in 1925. She married Cornelius J. McCormick on Dec. 24, 1926, at St. Andrew's Church. Mr. McCormick, a retired engineer for New York Central Railroad, died Feb. 9, 1975. Among her survivors are a niece, Ann Carey, Albany, and two friends, Francis Capello and Mary Lou Mitchell, Potsdam. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Church with the Rev. Paul Worczak officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery will be later this spring. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Buck Funeral Home.
