NORWOOD--A prayer service and burial for Wilfred C. (Bill) Brown, 68, of 800 State St., Schenectady and formerly of Norwood, were held at 1:15 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 4, 1986) at Calvary Cemetery, Norwood, with Monsignor George Phillips, pastor of St. Andrews Church in Norwood, officiating.
Arrangements were with the Light Funeral Home in Schenectady.
Mr. Brown died unexpectedly at his home on Aug. 31, 1986.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen, of Jackson, Tenn.; two sons, Francis (Skip) Brown of Watervliet and Gerald (Jerry Joe) Brown of Scotia; four sisters, Mrs. Hoysli (Lodene) Hathaway of Cobleskill, Mrs. Fred (Rena) Morgan of Norwood, Mrs. Harry (Mildred) Gibson of Norwood, and Mrs. David (Betty) Rourke of Madrid; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son, Charles Wilfred Brown, who died at the age of 14 months, and a brother, Alfred Brown of Salem, Oregon, who died in 1983.
Mr. Brown was born in the town of Waddington on May 22, 1918, the son of George and Clara Hough Brown. He graduated from Madrid High School. On Aug. 6, 1939, he married Ellen Charlebois of Norwood in a ceremony performed at St. Patricks Church in Colton.
He spent most of his life in Norwood, where he was first employed by Leslie Rood, for whom he delivered milk. He was later employed at H. M. Kinsman Co. in Norwood for 12 years.
He served in the U.S. Armys 4th Armored Division under Gen. George Patton during World War II.
In 1950, the family moved to Watertown, where they resided for several years and Mr. Brown was employed by Northland Motors. He retired in 1971 due to ill health. He had resided in Schenectady for the past nine years.
