Leo R. Donovan, 62, former mayor of Norwood, died at 12:30 a.m. Nov. 4 at his home in Morgan St. following an illness of two weeks. His death was attributed to a heart condition.
Mr. Donovan was born on June 20, 1887 in North Stockholm, a son of Patrick and Hannah Lorden Donovan and had resided in Norwood nearly all of his life. He never married.
Active in civic affairs, he had served as mayor of the village and also as a village trustee. He was for a number of years an engineer for the New York Central Railroad until poor health caused his retirement several years ago. For the past two years he had also conducted an insurance agency with offices in Mechanic St.
Mr. Donovan was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks lodge, Ogdensburg.
The survivors are two sisters, Agnes, residing at home; Mrs. Frank (Nona) Foy, Norwood; three brothers, Dan, Richard, both of Norwood; Patrick, Burlington, Vt., and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Andrews church by Rev. James E. Joy, pastor. Interment was in Calvary cemetery.
