Alcoa Retiree, Toymaker

POTSDAM--Francis G. Green, 82, of 540 River Road, died Saturday morning in the emergency room at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Mr. Green began his career at the Aluminum Company of America, Massena, in 1937. He was a molten metal driver and fork truck operator and retired from the company in 1977 after 40 years of service. He was also a truck mechanic at Eastern Petroleum for 21 years. Following his retirement, Mr. Green took part in the family business, Busy Fingers, and spent many hours making wooden toys to be sold throughout the state. Born April 17, 1915, in Brushton, son of Delbert and Armeda Russell Greene, he attended Potsdam schools. A veteran of World War II, he was an Army medic from 1941 to 1944. He married Dorothy Dumont on Sept. 25, 1937, in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Mahoney officiating. Mr. Green was a communicant of St. Andrew's Church and a member of the Alcoa 25-Year Club. He was an avid gardener and a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Leland and Wayne, both of Potsdam; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Bonnie) Spears, Potsdam; two brothers, Horace, Redwood, and George, Potsdam; two sisters, Hilda Mayo, Potsdam, and Emma Smith, Atlanta, Ga., nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Norwood, with the Rev. Paul Worczak officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Garner Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley or the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad.
