Ill Last Week, Appeared Depressed Shoots Self as Wife Came Home

In Response to Call From His Employer

 

The funeral of Lawrence Mackey, 34, who took his own life Monday

afternoon at about 2:00, at his-home in Depot street, will be held from St

Andrew's church this morning at 9:00, Rev.-James E. Joy officiating

Burial will be made in Calvary cemetery.

 

Mackey, who worked as a clerk at the Railway Express agency here,

appeared depressed Monday morning. He had been ill last week with grip.

He left the office for his home at noon for dinner and was due back at 1:15 pm.

When he did not return, H. G. Wood, Railway Express agent, tele-

phoned Mrs. Mackey, who works at the J. P. Hardy store. She went to

her home and as she entered the house heard a shot fired. The body of her

husband was found in a front bedroom upstairs. He had shot himself

in the right temple with a revolver.

 

Dr. Henry Vinicor was summoned and he called the coroner. Rites of

the Catholic church were administered by Rev. A] J. Farrell of Norfolk.

Coroner Brown investigated and decided an inquest unnecessary.

Mr. Mackey was born in Norwood July 6, 1903, the son of Mrs. Emma

Mackey and the late John Mackey. He attended the Norwood High school

and studied one year at St. Michael's college, Winooski, Vt.

 

For the past several years he had been employed at the Railway Express Agency.

 

He married Miss Elizabeth Perry at Massena May 13, 1926.

 

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Betty Lou and Beverly Ann; his

mother, Mrs. Emma Mackey, one sister Miss Jane Mackey, Norwood; four

brothers, Leonard E, Express Agent in Watertown, and Earl, Edward and

Harold Mackey of Norwood.
