Elementary School Teacher

POTSDAM--A memorial service for Margaret M. McBurnie, 80, Potsdam, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Marys Church with the Rev. John P. Kennehan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood. Mrs. McBurnie died Wednesday morning in Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she had been a patient since July 23. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Garner Funeral Home. She taught in Black River, Parishville and Norfolk schools and was an elementary teacher in the Potsdam Central School District from 1952 until her retirement in 1982. Born March 2, 1921, in Ogdensburg, daughter of Michael and Jessie LaBrake Borgan, she was a 1939 graduate of Potsdam High School and a 1943 graduate of Potsdam State Teachers College. She married Thomas J. McBurnie on Dec. 27, 1945, at St. Marys Church. She was a communicant of St. Marys Church, past treasurer of Potsdam State University College Alumni Association, a charter member of Potsdam State University College Foundation and a member of New York State Teachers Association. Surviving besides her husband are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael C., Minturn, Colo., Thomas J. and Barbara, Parishville, and John P., Avon, Colo., and three grandchildren. Donations may be made to St. Marys Church.
