Social worker

NORWOOD--Irene G. Parr, 76, of 337 Lakeshore Drive, died early Saturday at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she was admitted Wednesday.

Mrs. Parr was a county social worker until retiring in 1984.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s Church and a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters.

Born Aug. 18, 1926, in Potsdam, daughter of William and Gladys Delisle Gallagher, she graduated from Potsdam High School.

She married Robert R. Parr on June 27, 1946, at St. Mary’s Church, Potsdam, with the Rev. George Waterhouse officiating. Mr. Parr worked for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. and also served as mayor and trustee of the village of Norwood. He died April 30, 1991.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas R. and Donna, Virginia Beach, Va., and Richard J., Norwood; a brother, Paul Gallagher, Potsdam; three sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Singer, Reno, Nev., Mrs. James (Marie) Mackey, Florida, and Mrs. David (Ann) Dodds, Ogdensburg, and nieces and nephews.

A son, William, and three brothers, James, William and Donald "Bunky," died before her.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew’s Church with the Rev. Paul Worczak officiating. Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Buck Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
