Robert R. Parr (June 4, 1922-April 30, 1991)
NORWOOD -- The funeral for Robert R. Parr, 68, Route 2, retired Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation employee and former mayor and trustee of the Village of Norwood, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Church, with the Rev. Paul Worczak presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Parr died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Buck Funeral Home. Knights of Columbus Council 2309 will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday for the recitation of the rosary.
Surviving are his wife, Irene; three sons, William, Millersville, Md., Thomas, Virginia Beach, Va., and Richard, at home; three grandchildren; four sisters, Ellen Munson, Potsdam, Margaret Haggett, Norfolk, Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) McKenty, Norwood, and Mrs. Donald (Judy) Tuffing, Denver, Colo
.Born in Potsdam on June 4, 1922, a son of William and Julia Murphy Parr, he was a graduate of Norwood High School. He married Irene Gallagher on June 27, 1946, at St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. George Waterhouse presiding.
Mr. Parr served with the Marine Corps during World War II. Following his discharge, he was employed with Sullivan Contracting Company, Sand Point, Idaho, and later with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation as an electrical maintenance foreman until his retirement in June 1984, after 33 years of service. He also served as mayor and trustee of the Village of Norwood.
He was a communicant of St. Andrew's Church and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2309 and the American Legion.
