Maintenance worker

NORWOOD--Frank L. Penny, 77, of 7 Whitney St., died Sunday morning at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam.

Mr. Penny retired in 1992 after 18 years of service in the maintenance department at Potsdam State University College, where he was the Zamboni driver at the ice arena for many years. Previously, he had worked at Nekoosa-Edwards paper mill in Potsdam.

Born May 2, 1928, in Norwood, son of John and Josephine Refici Penny, he served in the Marine Corps during World War II and married Lucille R. Hoke on May 8, 1948.

He was a member of Norwood American Legion Post 68 and Knights of Columbus Council 2309 of Norwood, was an exempt member of the Norwood Fire Department and had been a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 40 for more than 20 years. He was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Church, was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed bird watching.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons and their wives, Frank and Terry, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Charles and Watana, Wichita, Kan., and Edward and Peggy, Norwood; three daughters and a son-in-law, Sharlene Penny, and her companion, Tobi Grove, Cathy and David Fenton and Patricia Cutler, all of Norwood; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew’s Church with Monsignor Harry K. Snow, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Buck Funeral Home, Norwood.

Donations may be made to Paul S. Warner Cancer Treatment Center in Potsdam.
