MADRID--The funeral for Wanda Marie Smith, 55, of 207 Elliot Road, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Memorial Home, Madrid, with the Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood.
Mrs. Smith died from cancer Wednesday at her home under the care of Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley and her family.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A homemaker, she had been a cashier at Ames Department Store and a cook at Bettys Diner, Potsdam, and local colleges.
Born Nov. 2, 1949, in Potsdam, a daughter of Charles and Betty Dufore Dumont, she was a 1967 graduate of Potsdam Central School and completed a Gateway training program. A marriage to Donald L. Hewey ended in divorce.
She married Robert C. Smith on July 2, 1994.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking and canning.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Sonyia Hewey, Canton; a stepdaughter, Theresa Skiff, Colton; three stepsons, Martin Smith, Springvale, Maine, David Smith, Gouverneur, and William Smith, Colton; two brothers, Charles Dumont, Ogdensburg, and Chris Dumont, Hannawa Falls; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Steve Dodge, Fulton, six grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren.
A son, Shawn Hewey, died Jan. 19, 2001.
Donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or Warner Cancer Treatment Center, Potsdam.
