Leon F. Weaver

Retired Laborer

POTSDAM--Leon Freeman Weaver, 72, formerly of Emerson Road, West Potsdam, died Saturday at Massena Memorial Hospital. He had resided at St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena, for three months.

Mr. Weaver was a retired member of Laborers Union Local 322 and had worked on local construction jobs for many years.

Born Aug. 25, 1929, in Parishville Center, son of Grant Edward and Edna Wynne Weaver, he attended local schools and served in the Army from 1948 to 1950.

He married Virginia Gushlaw on Oct. 6, 1948, in Norwood. Mrs. Weaver died April 30, 1995.

Surviving are four sons, Leon Jr., Coventry, RI, Robert, Hannibal, Randy Milton, Vt., and David, Canton; six daughters, Mrs. Gary (Patricia) Perry, Madrid, Mrs. David (Jenary) Wright, West Potsdam, Mrs. Michael (Brenda) Hewlett and Mrs. Warren (Valerie) LaValley, both of Massena, Mrs. Douglas (Barbara) Gilson, Sayre, Pa., and Mrs. Roderick (Cynthia) Mouthorp, Canton; five brothers, Edward, West Potsdam, Bernard, Norfolk, and Carl, Alfred and Fred, all of Potsdam; two sisters, Mrs. Forest (Helen) Cobane, Potsdam, and Mrs. Earl (Beverly) Stone, Ithaca, 28 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A daughter died in infancy. Five sisters and two brothers also died before him.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Garner Funeral Home with the Rev. John P. Kennehan officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
