Senior Engineer
(July 5, 1922--January 31, 2000)
NORWOOD--The funeral for Arthur E. Williams, 77, St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Ogdensburg, formerly of Norwood, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Newman Center, Potsdam, with the Revs. John M. Hunt and Howard J. Venette officiating. Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Williams died early Monday in Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, where he had been a patient since Wednesday.. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Buck Funeral Home. He served in Navy during World War II and in Korea and was senior engineer in the physical plant at Potsdam State University College until his retirement in 1983. Born July 5, 1922, in Malone, son of L. Arthur and Hazel G. Aust Williams, he was a graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy and a 1941 graduate of George Hall Trade School, Ogdensburg. He married Elizabeth Mary Branche on March 29, 1948, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Cape Vincent, with the Rev. Patrick B. Riley officiating. She died Feb. 2, 1993. He was an Eagle Scout, a past president of Norwood Kiwanis Club and past lieutenant governor of the St. Lawrence Kiwanis Region. He was also a member of the American Legion, Massena Veterans of Foreign Wars and board of directors of St. Lawrence County Chapter of New York State Association of Retarded Citizens, where he received the Keith Bush award. Surviving are two sons, Mark L., Parishville, and Thomas E., Ogdensburg; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Ann) Johnson, Ogdensburg, and three grandchildren.
