State hospital attendant

NORFOLK--Elaine K. Angelo, 88, Marsh Road, formerly of Partridge Knoll, Canton, died Sunday at Massena Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Angelo was a staff attendant for many years at Pilgrim State Hospital, Brentwood.

Born June 7, 1917, in the town of Norfolk, daughter of George and Delia Tebo Layaw, she graduated from Norwood High School.

She married Israel Levia, an Ogdensburg native, on Oct. 1, 1937, at Islip. Mr. Levia, a supervisor at Pilgrim State Hospital, died Nov. 19, 1969.

She married Vincent C. Angelo in 1982. Mr. Angelo, a former therapy aide at Pilgrim State Hospital, died July 16.

Surviving are a son and his wife, Joseph and Mary Levia, East Hampton; a daughter and her husband, Vanessa and Bruce Zipter, Oldsmar, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Howe, Massena; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Clyde and Marilyn Layaw and Paul Layaw, all of Potsdam, and Lloyd and Shirley Layaw, Groton; two grandchildren, a great-grandson and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including a niece and her husband, Marlene and Leon "Dick" Wood, with whom she resided.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew’s Church, Norwood, with Monsignor Harry K. Snow officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ogdensburg.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam.

Donations may be made to Norfolk Rescue Squad.
