Dr. Nathan E. Avery died at his home in Barre, Vt., Friday, Feby. 1. Dr. Avery was one of Barres most prominent citizens, having practiced there many years.
He was born in Norwood, son of Mr. And Mrs. Edwin E. Avery, and was a member of the first class that graduated from the Norwood High School. He taught two terms and then entered the Normal School here where he graduated in 1894. In 1894-95 he taught as principal of the school at Craigsville and 1895 became principal at North Lawrence.
He studied medicine and received his M. D. degree from the University of Vermont locating in Barre where he has since practiced.
In 1895 Dr. Avery married Miss Hattie Shaughnessy of Norwood, who graduated from the Normal here in 1893. Four children were born to them, two sons, Dr. Leland Avery and Dr. R. E. Avery, both practicing physicians in Barre, and two daughters. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at Barre.
Dr. Avery is survived by his wife, the four children mentioned above, and by two brothers, Samuel of Norwood and Edwin of Phoenix, Arizona.
Dr. and Mrs. Avery were in Potsdam last June to attend the reunion of Mrs. Averys class and they both enjoyed themselves greatly, especially at the breakfast of the Class of 93 at Arlington Inn.
