Veterinarian

MADRID--The funeral for Dr. Mendell P. "Doc" Bartlett, 71, Route 31, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Memorial Home with the Rev. Richard Lenz officiating. Burial will be in Madrid Cemetery.
Dr. Bartlett died Sunday in Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Members of the American Legion Post and its Auxiliary meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday and members of Madrid Volunteer Fire Department meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He had operated a veterinary practice in Madrid since 1957 and served as town of Madrid councilman and justice of the peace.
Born Nov. 25, 1927, in Madrid, a son of Luther R. and Isabel L. Parker Bartlett, he was a graduate of Norwood High School and St. Lawrence University, Canton and received a degree in veterinary medicine from Cornell University in 1956. He married Irma B. Brown on Oct. 17, 1969 in Norwood.
He was a member of the American Legion Post, Barney Pond Hunting Club, Norfolk Rod and Gun Club, St. Lawrence County Republican Committee, St. Lawrence County Cooperative Extension, St. Lawrence County Farm Bureau, Madrid Republican Committee, Madrid Youth Commission, New York State and St. Lawrence County veterinarian associations and the Citizens Advisory Committee of Madrid Volunteer Rescue Squad.
He was a member, chairman, president and supervisor of operations of Madrid Cemetery Association.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, David, Norwood; a daughter, Mrs. Harry "Tucker" (Marilyn) Doelger, Norwood, and three grandsons.
Two sisters, Dorothy Carter and Gertrude Rider, died before him.
