NORWOOD--The funeral for Marcil R. "Chub" Baxter, 84, of 3019 County Route 47, will be at 2 p.m. today at Buck Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Sweeney, pastor of Knapps Station Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hale Cemetery, Norfolk.
Mr. Baxter died Wednesday afternoon at Canton-0Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, where he had been a patient since Nov. 13.
Calling hours are from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Baxter worked in sawmills in earlier years and then at Aluminum Company of America, Massena, for 13 ½ years. He then went to work for Allied Chemical Corp., Barrett Division, as a crusher operator, retiring Nov. 1, 1981, after more than 23 years service.
He was a member of American Legion Post 68 and enjoyed gardening.
Born April 4, 1919, in North Stockholm son of Osie and Alice Worden Baxter, he attended Dyke Rural School on Knapps Station Road and Norwood High School.
A veteran of World War II, her served in the Army Signal Corps in Germany, Belgium, England and France and was discharged July 6, 1946.
He married Elizabeth J. Drew on Sept. 10, 1939, in Canton with the Rev. Clarence E. Stearns officiating. She died June 19.
Surviving are two sisters, Bertha Hale, Norwood, and Beulah Peck, Norfolk, and several nieces.
Three brothers, Warren, Bernard and Benjamin, and a sister, Bernice Baxter, died before him.
