Ethel W. Bidwell

Piano Teacher

NORFOLK--Ethel W. Bidwell, 91, formerly of Norfolk, died Monday morning in Community Nursing Home, Potsdam, where she had been a resident since Jan. 2, 1997.

 Mrs. Bidwell was employed by the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services, was a schoolteacher in Madrid, taught piano and played music at First Congregational Church, Norwood, and for the Order of the Eastern Star.

 Born Feb. 23, 1910, in West Pawlet, Vt., daughter of Robert and Edith Jones Williams, she attended schools in Utica and was a 1932 graduate of the Crane School of Music at Potsdam Normal School.

 She married Donald Gilmore Bidwell on Oct. 29, 1943, at First Congregational Church, Madrid, with the Rev. Emerson E. Emke officiating. Mr. Bidwell died May 18, 1962.

 Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 A brother, William Hugh Williams, and two sisters, Vivian Williams and Wilma Aldrick, died before her.

 A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, Potsdam, with the Rev. Clinton A. McCoy Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Hale Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Buck Funeral Home.
