NORWOOD--James S. Boyd, 63, of 5 Douglas Road, died Thursday evening in the emergency room at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam.

Mr. Boyd was a teacher at Massena Central School from 1963 to 1967, at McFarland (Calif.) Elementary School from 1967 to 1`968, and at Potsdam Central School from 1969 to 1994, when he retired.

Born Oct. 18,m 1939, in Plattsburgh, son of Ralph and Dorothy Sibley Boyd, he graduated from Peru Central School in 1957 and received a bachelor’s degree from Plattsburgh Sate University College and a master’s degree from Potsdam State University College.

He married Bonnie Stewart on Feb. 24, 1968, at Hilltop Methodist Church, Seaside, Calif.

He was a member of Potsdam Country Club, Beeham Game Club of South Colton, Elks Lodge 2074 of Potsdam, the New York State Retired Teachers Association and the First Presbyterian Church of Daily Ridge. He coached wrestling and soccer at Potsdam Central and was also a soccer and lacrosse official for both the Northern New York Soccer Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, gardening, woodworking and kayaking.

Surivving besides his wife are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Andrew M. and Elizabeth C. and Mark S. and Mandy M., all of Norwood, and James B., Duluth, Minn.; a daughter and her husband, Beth and Mark Erdmann, Widefield, Colo.; a niece who was raised as a daughter, Shannon K. Boyd, and her fiance, Matthew R. Bartholomew, addresses unavailable; a brother, Robert R., Dunedin, Fla.; a grandson, two granddaughters, two nephews, another niece and two great-nieces.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Potsdam Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael P. Catanzaro officiating. Burial will be in Dailey Ridge Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Buck Funeral Home, Norwood.
