Thelma Carpenter Brown

 

(December 12, 1916--November 30, 1999)

 

NORWOOD--A memorial service for Thelma Carpenter Brown, 82, widow of Stanley Brown, native of Norwood, will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 29, 1999 in the National Veteran's Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz. Cremation will follow.

 Arrangements are with the Family Burial and Cremation Center in Mesa, Ariz.

 Mrs. Brown died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, in the Sun Health Hospice Care Services, Phoenix, Ariz., where she had been a patient since Nov. 12.

 Surviving her are two sons and their wives, William and Debra Brown, Phoenix, Ariz., and Bradley and Loretta Brown of Tucson, Ariz. and three grand-daughters, Kristina Brown, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Band, Debra and Vanessa Brown, Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Winona and Robert White of Potsdam and Iona and Albert Ames of Norwood; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

 She was predeceased by three brothers, Clyde, Vernon and Lyle Carpenter, and one sister, Muriel Carpenter Gibson.

Mrs. Brown was born in Alburg, Vt., Dec. 12, 1916, daughter of the late William and Blanche Gale Carpenter. She moved to Norwood with her family in 1926 and graduated from Norwood High School in 1935 and the St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing, Ogdensburg, in 1939. She joined the army Nurse Corps in 1942 and received her training at Pine Camp, N.Y. now Fort Drum.

 She served with units in North Africa and France and was honorably discharged in 1945.

 She and Stanley Brown, also of Norwood, were married in 1946. They lived in Syracuse before moving to Phoenix, Ariz. in 1956. Mr. Brown died May 30, 1995.
