NORWOOD--The funeral for Lyle D. "Shud" Camp, 85, of 3 Whitney Street, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Buck Funeral Home, Norwood, with the Rev. Thomas Jones, pastor of Norwood United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Lee Sweeney, pastor of Knapps Station Community church, officiating. Burial will be in Rensselaer Falls Cemetery.

Mr. Camp died Friday afternoon at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Camp owned and operated Norwood Hardware and Electric Store.

He was a member of Norwood United Methodist Church; Norwood Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief; Norwood Brass Firemen’s Band; the Kiwanis Club; What Cheer Masonic Lodge 689; Norwood Chamber of Commerce, where he served as president; Norwood American Legion, and the Northern New York Ex-P.O.W. Chapter.

Born Oct. 6, 1918, in Norwood, son of Merton E. and Ethel Dayton Camp, he graduated from Norwood High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted on Jan. 6, 1943, completed basic training at Camp McCain, Miss., went to England in January 1944, and then to France July 5, 1944. He was captured by the Nazis near Fountainbleau, France, on Aug. 26, 1944, and was a prisoner of the German government until March 10, 1945.

He married Keitha A. Roca on Aug. 9, 1947, at Rensselaer Falls Congregational Church with the Rev. Charles Montgomery officiating. Mrs. Camp joined the staff of the State Bank of Norwood in 1948, continued on with St. Lawrence National Bank after the two merged in 1958, and was promoted to assistant cashier and manager of the Norwood branch in 1973. She has since retired.

Surviving besides his wife are a nephew, Robert G. Camp, Pierrepont; four nieces, Linda Sharlow, Norfolk, Sandy Shook, Ohio, Valarie Seeley, Florida, and Betty Fifield, Canton, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

A brother, Kenneth E., and two sisters, Leona Seeley and Lillian Baisley, died before him.
