Blanche C. Carney

MASSENA--The funeral for Blanche C.Carney, 93, formerly of 3 Bishop Ave., will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Robert L. Graham III, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

 Mrs. Carney died Tuesday evening in Highland Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 1994.

 Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Phillips Memorial Home.

 Mrs. Carney began service with the St. Lawrence County Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1950, serving as chairman of staff aides, as a volunteer and in home services, and was named executive director in 1956, retiring April 10, 1986.

 Born Nov. 19, 1907, in Norwood, daughter of Henry and Alice Hill Quenell, she married Lloyd J. Carney on Sept. 14, 1929, at St. Martin's Church, Montreal, with the Rev. Roger Howard officiating. Mr. Carney died Feb. 8, 1960.

 She was a charter member and past president of Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Royal Neighbors, American Women's Democratic Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Women of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, Massena Senior Citizens and National Council of Senior Citizens. She was a Girl Scout leader and a past president of Massena Chapter of the Girl Scouts of America.

 Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Alice and Thomas Cline, Massena, and Judith Dunn and Pamela and George Bergen, all of East Hartford, Conn.; a sister, Marion Payment, Michigan; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

 Three sons died before her, James in 1932, Ronald in 1964 and Timothy P. in 1999. A great-grandchild also died before her.
