COLTON--Funeral services for Harold N. Casselman, 86, of 88 B Gulf Road, Colton, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton with the Rev. Donald Casselman, his cousin, pastor emeritus of the First Baptist Church in Ogdensburg officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ogdensburg.

Calling hours will be held Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Buck funeral Home in Colton.

Mr. Casselman died Thursday (May 12, 2005) at the Canton United Helpers Nursing Home where he had been a resident since January.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; three children, Patrick and Karen of Ogdensburg, Cheryl and Ralph Goodwin of Tupper Lake, Diane of Orange, Calif.; four step-children, William and Marie Creighton of Albany, Marie Creighton of Canton, Suzanne and Daniel Smith of Sackets Harbor, Anne and Dick Castle of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Clifford, Edward and Kristina Casselman, Renata and Shawna Goodwin; six step grandchildren, Emily Smith, Michael Smith, Sean Castle, Sarah Castle, Matthew Creighton, Jillian Creighton; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Casselman and Alexia Goodwin; a brother, Lloyd (Slick) Casselman, Centre, Ala.; a sister, Shirley and Chuck Goodrich of Ithaca; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia; his parents; a brother, James Wilford; a sister, Gladys Audrey Champney; and two infant granddaughters, Aletha and Marina Casselman.

He was born March 7, 1919 in Norwood, the son of Correl Clifford and Margaret E. Pitts Casselman. He graduated from Norwood High School and attended Clarkson colleges. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army from 1941 until 1945.

On June 16, 1951 he married Patricia Logan at St. Joseph’s Church Rectory in Massena. They made their home in Norwood for many years before moving to Ogdensburg in 1974. She predeceased him Jan. 31, 1985.

He married Grace E. Creighton on Jan. 10, 1987 at St. Paul’s Church in South Colton. They made their home in Colton.

He began his career in banking on June 1, 1948 at Potsdam Savings and Loan. He held many positions at the bank over the years, retiring as executive vice-president of North Country Savings Bank on June 30, 1984.

Over the years he was a member of many organizations, the American Legion, Norwood, Kiwanis Club, Norwood Zoning Board of Appeals, the Salvation Army Service Unit in Potsdam, Ogdensburg Kiwanis Club, the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce and Treasurer of the Salvation Army Board of Ogdensburg.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Lawrence Valley Hospice and Palliative Care or to the Kiwanis Club of Ogdensburg.
