Bus Company Retiree
(November 19, 1910--February 7, 2000)
NORWOOD--Roderick J. Castle, 89, Madison Lane Apartments, Hamilton, a native of Norwood, died Monday at his home.
Mr. Castle retired after 25 years with Syracuse-Eastern Bus Co. and previously had worked for Shell Oil Co., Carrier Corp. and Julian Brown, all in Syracuse. At one time, he also ran his own cab service in Syracuse.
Born Nov. 19, 1910, in Norwood, son of John Adam and Cora Anne Wolfe Castle, he graduated from Hartford High School and Utica School of Commerce.
He married Mary Ransier Yott on Aug. 6, 1968, in Pennsylvania.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Grover Lavier, Baldwinsville, and Jane and Bruce Lavoy, Tupper Lake; a son and his wife, Roderick and Lynn, Baldwinsville; five stepdaughters and their husbands, Mary and Richard Simmons, Heuvelton, Patricia and Ken Wilcox, Syracuse, Adele and Michael Pilchen, Waterville, Linda and Allen France, Hamilton, and Diane and Rudy Brouillette, Madison; another stepdaughter, Susan Castle, Deansboro; a stepson and his wife, Michael and Susan Yott, Bouckville; a sister, Mrs. Stanley (Jean) Hoyt, Florida; 27 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and hephews.
A brother, Redmond, and a sister, Lorraine Rapple, died before him.
A memorial service was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Burgess Funeral Home, Hamilton, with Monsignor John R. Madden officiating. Donations may be made to Hospice Care Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
