Charles Claffey

Norwood Man Found Dead

Charles Claffey Was Wanted as a Witness at Canton, But Could not be Located

Charles Claffey, a well known miller of Norwood, was found dead on the floor of his home at an early hour Thursday morning by his son Earl Claffey, who came in on the late train from Potsdam. The body was lying face downward between the sitting and dining rooms where he had evidently been overtaken by heart failure. The deceased is survived by his widow and one son the former being ill in the hospital at Ogdensburg. Mr. Claffey was in Ogdensburg a few days before his death and was robbed of his pocket book containing $40, a prize fighter was accused of the theft and was at Canton awaiting the action of the grand jury. Claffey was wanted there Thursday to appear in the case and a bench warrant was issued for him but he could not be found. It is the general opinion that he had been dead for at least two days as he had not been seen since the previous Thursday.
