Acoustic Engineer

NORWOOD--Robert Lawrence Dean, 60, of 1214 Epsilon St., Pasadena, Texas, a native of Norwood, died Tuesday at his home.
He was born Nov. 15, 1938, in Norwood, son of Lawrence O. and Eva Dean. He graduated in the mid-1950s from Norwood-Norfolk Central School, where he played on the hockey and baseball teams. A marriage ended in divorce.
Mr. Dean left Norwood to join the Navy shortly after high school, settling in California after his discharge.. He became an acoustic engineer for the National Aeronautic and Space Administration in Pasadena and later in Houston, Texas, retiring in the mid-1990s. He also owned and operated a restaurant in Texas for a few years.
Mr. Dean loved the St. Lawrence River and was an avid fisherman and environmentalist. He spent summers at his riverside camp in Waddington.
Surviving besides his parents are a daughter, Lisamarie, Pasadena, Texas; a stepson, Kurt Deitz, San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Warren C., Norwood, Lawrence O. Jr., Liberty, Texas, and Maurice M., Houston, Texas; three sisters, Janice Rice and Penelope Fredel, both of Syracuse, and Patricia Rourk, Norwood, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Pasadena Funeral Chapel, 2203 Pasadena Blvd. The body was cremated.
