George M. DeLaire

Assistant Civil Engineer

George M. DeLaire, 85, Pittsford, formerly of Watertown, died Thursday in Clifton Springs Hospital.

 Mr. DeLaire was an assistant civil engineer with the state Department of Transportation in Watertown, retiring in 1977. After retirement he moved to Clearwater, Fla.

 Born Nov. 10, 1915, at St. Regis Falls, son of Paul T. and Clara DeLaire, he graduated from St. Regis Falls High School and the state Ranger School at Wanakena. He served in the Army Air Forces 320th Medium Bombardment Group from 1942 to 1945 and retired from the Air Force Reserve with the rank of master sergeant.

 He married Elinor Ann Harris on Nov. 30, 1946, at St. Andrew's Church, Norwood, with the Rev. James E. Joy officiating.

 Mr. DeLaire was a eucharistic minister at Holy Family Church, was a past school board member for Holy Family School, was a member of Watertown Golf Club, had performed with Watertown Lyric Theater and ws a 50-year member of American Legion Army and Navy Post 61. In Florida, he was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 5635, a past faithful navigator of the of the 4th degree, Knights Assembly 1706, and a member of the Bay Palms Golf Complex, MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa.

 Surviving besides his wife are a daughter and her husband, Ellen DeLaire-Newman and Wayne R. Newman, Pittsford, and many nieces and nephews.

 A funeral Mass will be said at 9 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Transfiguration, Pittsford. A graveside service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Cemetery with Monsignor Robert J. McCarthy officiating.

 Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Homes Inc., Rochester.

 Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
