World War II veteran

MASSENA--A funeral Mass with military honors for Arthur R. Durham, 77, of 14 Cummings St., will be said at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Josephs Church with the Rev. Jack Downs officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Durham died at 3 a.m. Monday in Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Phillips Memorial Home, where members of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1702 will meet at 7 p.m. and Veterans of foreign Wars Post 1143 will meet at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Durham served in the Navy during World War II and was a general supervisor in the shipping and receiving department at General Motors Central Foundry, retiring in 1984. Following retirement, he worked at JAC Tower Services.
Born Feb. 19, 1926, in Malone, son of Alex and Emma Wyman Durham, he was a graduate of Franklin Academy and Adirondack School of Commerce, both in Malone.
He married Norma Marie French on Feb. 6, 1948, at St. Andrews Church, Norwood, with the Rev. James E. Joy officiating. Mrs. Durham died Sept. 14, 1992.
He was a member of VFW Post 1143, American Legion Post 68, Norwood, and Elks Lodge 1702 and enjoyed fishing in the St. Lawrence River.
Surviving are four sons, Thomas A., Kansas City, Mo., Stephen L., Long Lake, and Paul J. and Mark A., both of Massena; three daughters, Mary C. Durham, Ogdensburg, Mrs. James (Joan) Toth, Massena, and Mrs. John (Barbara) Cook, Middlebury, Conn.; three stepbrothers, Charles Durham, Syracuse, James Durham, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and William Durham, Richmond, Va.; five stepsisters, Joyce Doty and Janice Staley, both of Syracuse, Virginia Hagezof, Richmond, Va., JoAnne Durham, India, and Linda Hatoum, Beirut, Lebanon; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Brenda ONeil, died before him.
