DEKALB JUNCTION--Athol "Ed" Edwards, 62, Route 1, retired employee of St. Joe Minerals Corp., died at 8 a.m. Tuesday at his home after a long illness.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Morgan officiating. The body will be cremated.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Denesha Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to St. Lawrence County Hospice.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; five daughters, Mrs. Michael (Joan) Deroo, Churchville, Mrs. Paul (Jean) Merithew, DeKalb Junction, Mrs. Edward (Jacqueline) Gauthier, Canton, Mrs. Blane (Terry) Harding, Loveland, Colo., and Mrs. Darren (Toni) Brabaw, Cortland; five grandchildren; five brothers, Hollis Edwards, Potsdam, Loren Edwards, Dade City, Fla., Marlyn Edwards, Babson Park, Fla., Wallis Edwards, Texarkana, Ark., and Ivan Edwards, Parishville, and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Norwood on Sept. 12, 1927, a son of Keith and Hazel Hunter Edwards, he attended Norwood schools.
He married Phyllis Johnson Feb. 20, 1953, in Northport, L.I.
The couple lived in DeKalb Junction for 20 years. Mr. Edwards was employed at the St. Joe mines in Edwards when he retired.
(There is a memorial stone in the Hermon Cemetery for Athol Edwards. His ashes were spread on the family farm).
