World War II Veteran

 

(July 3, 1921-April 11, 2001)

 

NORWOOD--Wallis Keith Edwards, 79, Texarkana, Ark., formerly of Norwood, died April 11 in Texarkana.

 Mr. Edwards served with the ArmyAir Corps during World War II and was employed with Monsanto Chemical Corp., El Dorado, Ark., until his retirement.

 Born July 3, 1921, in Alburgh, Vt., a son of Keith and Hazel Hunter Edwards, he was a 1939 graduate of Norwood High School and married Faye Mauk.

 He was a member of Beech Street First Baptist Church, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 339 and Fraternal Order of Eagles 2684 and a charter member, past president and lieutenant governor of District 13 of Diamond K Kiwanis Club, all in Texarkana.

 Surviving besides his wife are two sons and their wives, Wendell and Gloria, Burlison, Tenn., and Dana and Janice, Denton, Texas; four brothers, Loren E., Roanoke, Va., Marlyn H., Sebring, Fla., Hollis D., Potsdam, and Jack, Floyd, Va.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 A memorial service was at Texarkana Funeral Home Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel.

Wallis Keith Edwards, 79, of Texarkana, Ark., died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in a local hospital.

 

Mr. Edwards was born July 3, 1921, in Alburgh, Vt. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical Co., a member of Beech Street First Baptist Church, Elk Lodge 339 and Fraternal Order of Eagles 2684, charter member and former president of Diamond K Kiwanis, former lieutenant governor of District 13 and an Army and Air Force veteran of World War II.

 

Survivors include his wife, Faye Mauk Edwards of Texarkana; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell and Goria Edwards of Burlison, Tenn., and Dana and Janice Edwards of Denton, Texas; four brothers, Loren E. Edwards of Ranoke, Va., Marlyn H. Edwards of Sebring, Fla., Hollis D. Edwards of Potsdam, N.Y. and Jack Edwards of Floyd, Va.; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. today at Texarkana Funeral Home Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bill Steeger officiating.
