NORWOOD--The funeral for Marie E. Gardner, 78, Norwood, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop, with the Rev. Stephen H. Gratto, pastor of St. Patrick’s Church, Brasher Falls, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Brasher Falls.

 Mrs. Gardner died Tuesday afternoon at her home where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

 Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 Mrs. Gardner worked at Clarkson College of Technology, Potsdam, now Clarkson University, in the food service department as a cook, retiring in September 1979 after 20 years of service.

 She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church.

 Born April 21, 1924, in Potsdam, daughter of Roy and Blanche Severance Fountain, she graduated from Brasher-Stockholm High School.

 She married Joseph E. Gardner of Stockholm on Aug. 7, 1942, at St. Patrick’s Church with the Rev. John A. Cotter officiating. Mr. Gardner died Feb. 1, 1995.

 Surviving are a son and his wife, Joseph and Barbara, Massena; a sister, Betty Fountain, Potsdam; a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, a great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

 A sister, Velma McGregor, two brothers, Clarence and Wallace Fountain, and three great-grandchildren died before her.
