‘Doll Lady’

MASSENA--Marjorie Isabelle Grant, 88, formerly of 8 Bowers St., died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since Aug. 21, 1996.

 Mrs. Grant was assistant librarian at Norwood Library and was employed at the IGA grocery store. She was a clerk at Montgomery Ward until her retirement in 1974 after 17 years.

 Born Sept. 21, 1913, in Raymondville, daughter of Horace and Eva Harper Babcock, she was a 1931 graduate of Norwood High School. She married Stanley James Grant on June 15, 1940, at the United Methodist Church parsonage, Madrid, with the Rev. Lawrence Heatherington officiating. Mr. Grant died April 9, 1995.

 She was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ and Cretona Chapter 516, Order of the Eastern Star. She was known as the "doll lady," purchasing old dolls and refurbishing them, and she enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband.

 Surviving is a sister, Audrey Westover, Norwich.

 A sister, Jean Simonette, died in 1984. Five nieces also died before her.

 The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Donaldson Funeral Home with the Rev. Lance C. Dallaire officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Tupper Lake.

 Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with an Eastern Star service at 11:30 a.m.
