NORWOOD--Funeral services for Gaithel "Ray" Greer, 73, of 2 Depot St., Norwood, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Church in Norwood with the Rev. Monsignor Harry Snow, pastor, presiding. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park in Ogdensburg.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood.
Mr. Greer died Thursday morning (April 6, 2006) at Massena Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Norwood; four sons, Robert Greer of Morrisonville, Richard and Lorraine Greer of Potsdam, Victor and Melissa Greer of Auburndale, Fla., and John Greer of Norwood; three daughters, Mrs. James (Barbara) Liebfred of Norwood, Mrs. Kenneth (Rebecca) Murray of Norwood, and Mrs. Wendell (Marianne) Matott of Harrisville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Elmer J. Greer of Lawton, Okla.; and a sister, Vera Spears of Memphis, Tenn.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Greer; and two sisters, Louise Black and Edna Bickerstaff.
Mr. Greer was born on May 22, 1932 in Louisville, Ky., the son of Jessie and Mary Bledsoe Greer.
He married Geraldine Snyder on July 7, 1954.
He was employed as a crane operator at Reynolds in Massena, retiring in 2004.
He was a member of the Norwood American Legion and was a Korean War veteran in the United States Army.
