Bernard J. 'Griff' Griffith
(August 13, 1935-December 22, 2007)
PLATTSBURGH -- Bernard J. "Griff" Griffith, 72, of Chantecler Court, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Norwood, N.Y., on Aug. 13, 1935, the son of William James and Jeannette (Rose) Griffith.
Griff was a veteran of Korea serving in the U. S. Army. He worked as a lineman for New York Telephone and retired after 30 years of service. An avid race car enthusiast, he raced cars at Airborne in Plattsburgh, Catamount, Fairhaven and Barre, Vt., and Quebec City. Griff later was a race car inspector and held a NASCAR license. He enjoyed spending time in Florida, going to the Daytona 500, fishing, woodworking, but most importantly spending time with the "Apple of his Eye" his grandson, Jacob Griffith Anthony.
Griff was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a communicant of St. Alexander's Church.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mildred D. (Demarse) Griffith of Plattsburgh; a son, William James Griffith of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Kathleen Beth Anthony and her husband, Jeff, and their son, Jacob Griffith Anthony of Salem, Mass.; four step-grandchildren, Chris, Marie, Brittany and Michael; a niece, Maureen; and a nephew, Scott.
He was predeceased by his parents, William James and Jeannette Griffith; and a sister, Donna Fuller.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, N.Y. A funeral service will follow at noon with the Rev. William G. Reamer, chaplain at CVPH Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at a later date at St. Alexander's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Adirondack Humane Society.
