Journeyman mason

NORWOOD--Ian McDonough Guerin, 27, Norwood, died Monday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. An autopsy was performed Wednesday, with results unavailable.

Mr. Guerin was a journeyman mason with Bricklayers and Craftworkers Local 2 and had also worked with contractors in Malone, Lake Placid and other areas of the state. He built many stone walls and fireplaces in Delhi and Lake Placid and most recently was working on a project at Fort Drum.

Born June 14, 1978, in Malone, son of Jon E. and Elizabeth Martin Guerin, he graduated in 1996 from Franklin Academy in Malone and received a certificate in building and trades from North Franklin Education Center. While in high school he played soccer and ran track for four years and in his senior year participated in the state track and field competition in the 400-meter hurdle event. He graduated in 1998 from Delhi College of Technology.

Surviving are his mother and father, of Chateaugay; a brother, Nathan, Hoboken, N.J.; a half brother and sister, Brett and Brittney Guerin, Keene; aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay. Cremation is planned. Burial will be in North Burke Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Chateaugay Funeral Home.
