Charlene Hathaway Hackbarth

(died December 6, 2007)

 

Charlene Hackbarth, 83, of Camillus, passed away Thursday at Community General Hospital.

Born in Norwood, NY, she lived in Camillus since 1952 and that same year she joined Fairmount Community Church, where she later taught Sunday school for 17 years and was former chair of Christian Ed., long-range planning and the board of deacons as well as the first woman moderator and former church secretary.

She had been employed by Haylor & Haun Insurance and later worked as secretary for the superintendent of schools for West Genesee until 1985.

She was very proud to help establish E.C.H.O. Meals on Wheels to serve the western suburbs back in 1967.

She was predeceased by her son, Eric "Rick," in 2005.

Survived by her husband of 60 years, Carl; two daughters, Christine Hackbarth of Syracuse and Patricia (Steven Little) Hackbarth of NYC; a brother, Hoysli Hathaway of Cobleskill; three grandchildren, Morgen Millson, Serena Curtis and Cynthia Little; and a great-granddaughter, Natalya Bush.

Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. today (Sunday) at B.L. Bush & Sons, 10 Genesee St., Camillus. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Fairmount Community Church, 4801 West Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13219. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens.
