The death of John Hayes, an old and highly respected citizen of Potsdam occurred suddenly at his home on Pierrepont avenue, Wednesday evening about eight oclock, death being due to dilation of the heart. He had been sitting on the veranda until a short time before his death, apparently in good health.
John Hayes son of Mr. And Mrs. Patrick Hayes was born in Norwood, 77 years ago and most of his life was spent in this vicinity.
On February 23, 1867 he married Miss Mary Mullen by whom he is survived together with five children, George of Boston, Henry of Chicago, Fred, Zella and Mrs. Rose Joy of this place. Five brothers also survive, Jerry and Charles of California, Patrick of Pittsburgh, W. D. of Rochester, and J.F. of Potsdam.
Mr. Hayes has been engaged all his life in factory work and the milk business and was highly thought of by all with whom he came in contact.
