NORWOOD--The funeral for Shaylee Marie Hippensteel, 5-week-old daughter of Robert E. Hippensteel and Veronica Gillespie, 7282 Route 56, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, with the Rev. J. Michael Gaffney, pastor of St. Marys Catholic Church, Massena, officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
The infant died Monday morning at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. An autopsy performed Monday by Dr. Samuel A. Livingstone, Watertown, was inconclusive. According to St. Lawrence County Coroner Russell B. Lawrence III, Canton. Additional tests and laboratory reports are pending, he said.
The baby awoke and was fed about 4 a.m. Monday, according to investigator Augustus T. Burns of the St. Lawrence County sheriffs department.
She joined her parents in bed after eating and was unresponsive when they awoke about 7:45 a.m., he said.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
She was born July 6 at Massena Memorial Hospital.
Surviving besides her parents are a brother, Dakota Hippensteel, at home; a sister, Alexis Hippensteel, at home; her maternal grandparents, Marlene and William Green Jr., Massena; her paternal grandparents, Marylynn and Harold Capstraw, Malone; her maternal great-grandmothers, Marilyn Rivers and Caroline Stuart, both of Massena; her maternal great-grandfather and step-great-grandmother, Robert and Nancy Arno, Taberg; her paternal great-grandparents, Harold and Phyllis Marshfield, Fort Covington, and Harold and Sue Capstraw, Malone; her maternal great-great-grandmother, Albertine Duprey, Massena; her maternal great-great-grandfather, Robert Snyder, Fort Covington, and several aunts and uncles.
