Charles Glasford Hough, Age 103, Dies in Norwood

 

(April 5, 1885-July 28, 1988)

 

MADRID--Charles Glasford Hough, 103, formerly of State Street, died Thursday at the home of his niece, Mildred Gibson, Norwood.

 The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fay G. Mann Funeral Home, with Rev. Judith Persen, of the United Church of Madrid, officiating. Burial will be in Madrid Cemetery.

 Calling hours will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral Saturday at the funeral home.

 Surviving besides Mrs. Gibson are several nieces and nephews.

 Born in Avonmore, Canada, April 5, 1885, a son of Allen and Emma Hitsman Hough, coming to the United States at the age of 5 with his parents.

 He married Lena Brown April 5, 1910. Mrs. Hough died in 1948.

 Mr. and Mrs. Hough lived in Springfield, Mass., for four years after their marriage, where Mr Hough was employed by the Street Railroad. They then moved to the Lisbon-Waddington area where they farmed for a short time. In 1925, the couple moved to Madrid, where Mr. Hough did electrical and carpentry work in the area.

 He was a member and treasurer of the Madrid United Methodist Church, also serving as a trustee and a choir member of the church.

 He had lived with Mrs. Gibson since 1979.
