NORWOOD GUNNER DIES IN PACIFIC

 

Cpl. Wallace E. Hough, 21, Killed Over Celebes.

Norwood, Feb. 6.--Cpl. Wallace E. Hough, 21, U.S. Army air forces tail gunner on a bomber, was killed in action while on a mission Jan. 11 over the Celebes Islands in the Pacific area, the war department telegram has informed his mother, Mrs. Bessie Hough, this village.

 Corporal Hough had been serving in the Pacific area since September, 1944. He was called to service on March 20, 1943 and received his basic training at Hunter Field, Ga.

 Surviving are his mother and one sister, Mrs. Eugene (Nell) Lewis, Norwood.

 Corporal Hough was born at Russell, Aug. 11, 1923, the son of Mrs. Bessie Hough and the late Edward T. Hough. He moved to Norwood with his parents, as a child and attended Norwood schools, including the Norwood High school. He moved back to Russell during his high school years, where he was graduated from the Knox Memorial High School at Russell in 1941. After his graduation, he moved with his mother to Norwood again.

 He then entered St. Lawrence University, Canton, where he was a student for two years before being called to active duty.
