Navy Veteran

POTSDAM--A memorial service for Dean M. Hunter, 57, of 603 N. Pine St., Roseboro, N.C., a Potsdam native, will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Michaels Cemetery, Fine. A funeral service was held June 11 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Clinton, N.C. Arrangements are with Hawley Funeral Home, Star Lake.
Mr. Hunter died from complications of lung cancer on June 7 at University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill, N.C.
He was a Naval aviation technician and veteran of the Vietnam War. He served aboard the USS Enterprise and was stationed at Waibbey Naval Air Force Base, Wash. He retired after 22 years from the Navy with a rank of E9.
Born Nov. 17, 1944, in Potsdam, the son of Fay G. and Melva Hunter, he graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School, Norwood, in 1962. He attended Canton Agricultural and Technical College.
He was previously married.
Surviving besides his wife, the former Rosemary Besaw, and his mother of Norwood, are two sons, Scott, Oak Harbor, Wash., and Kevin, Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Sanford, Rutland, Vt.; a stepson, Andrew Sanford, Pasedena, Calif.; two sisters, Cheryl Ware, Solomons, Md., and Patricia LaRose, Norwood; two brothers, Stanley Hunter, Gilboa, and Paul Hunter, Norwood; a granddaughter; five nieces; a nephew; two grand-nieces, and two grand-nephews.
