NORWOOD--The Rev. Lawrence B. Jones, 77, New Bern, N.C., formerly of 6 Prospect St., died May 31 at his home.

 The Rev. Mr. Jones served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a design draftsman with Bell Laboratories, New York City, and Grumman Aircraft, Long Island. He was ordained an Episcopal priest on Oct. 29, 1955, on Long Island and served in churches in Matituck, Long Island, Queens, Port Henry, Ticonderoga, Ausable Forks and Keeseville.

 He also served as rector of St. Philip’s Church, Norwood, and Zion Church, Colton, and was chairman of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Committee in the Albany Diocese. He also served churches in eastern North Carolina.

 Born May 24, 1926, in Brooklyn, son of George and Louise Jones, he attended Cornell University and Mercer School of Theology, Garden City, Long Island. He married Elizabeth Catherine Marssdorf on Oct. 9, 1948, at the Church of the Holy Nativity, the Bronx, with Rev. Charles J. Buck officiating.

 Surviving besides his wife are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Douglas and Kimberly , Queensbury, Richard and Jane, Mount Sinai, and Donald, Brooklyn; a daughter and her husband, Barbara J. and Josef teRiele, Canton; two foster sons and their wives, Richard and Rosie Winchell, Ausable Forks, and Robert and Wendy Winchell, Easton, Md.; a foster daughter, Mary Ellen Winchell, Jay; eight grandchildren, six foster grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 A sister, Audrey J. Hipp, died before him.

 A memorial service was held at Christ Episcopal Church, New Bern. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Arrangements were with Pollock-Best Funerals & Cremations, New Bern.
