NORWOOD--Warren F. LaValley, 82, formerly of Route 56, died Tuesday morning at Highland Nursing Home, Massena, where he had been a resident since August.
Mr. LaValley served in the Army from Feb. 26, 1943, to Dec. 15, 1945, seeing duty during World War II in the European Theater, Normandy and the Rhineland. He was a lineman with Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. from 1949 until his retirement in 1978.
Born July 9, 1917, in Piercefield, a son of Hubert and Marie Shepard LaValley, he was a graduate of Potsdam High School and married Luella "Betty" Waite on April 12, 1949, in Massena. Mrs. LaValley died Dec. 30, 1994.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Potsdam, and a member of American Legion Post 1174, Elmer Murphy Disabled Veterans Post and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 836. He was a founding member of Douglas E. Peet Memorial React Team 3609 and enjoyed bowling and fishing.
Surviving are three sons, Nelson, Parishville, Warren F. II, Norfolk, and Gregory, Adams Center; a stepson, James Waite, Augustine, Fla.; a daughter, Dorothy LaValley Thompson, Sarasota, Fla.; three sisters, Priscilla Rivette, Rome, Alice Vitticore, Clyde, Marian Brown, Potsdam, and June Colbert, Lyons; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A sister, Elanor Cota, died before him.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Satuday at St. Mary's Church, Potsdam, with the Rev. Euclid Marier officiating. Burial will be in Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Garner Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Highland Nursing Home Residents Council, 182 Highland Road, Massena, N.Y. 13667, Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad or St. Mary's Church, Potsdam.
