Teacher, minister’s wife

NORWOOD--Fedora A. Pernice Loan, 87, New Hartford, died Saturday at Presbyterian Home, Whitesboro, following a short illness.

Mrs. Loan was a schoolteacher in several Northern New York communities, ending her career after teaching for 13 years at Main Street Elementary School, Whitesboro.

Born July 7, 1918, in Norwood, daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth Pernice, she graduated in 1939 from Potsdam Normal School.

On Aug. 17, 1940, she married William J. Loan. The Rev. Mr. Loan was pastor of Heuvelton United Methodist Church from 1948 to 1952 and retired in 1990 as pastor of Point Peninsula Methodist Church. He died Dec. 3, 1991.

Mrs. Loan was a member and elder of Whitesboro Presbyterian Church and a member of the First Historical Club of Whitesboro. She was a partner in her husband’s ministry, playing organ in several churches her husband served. She enjoyed needlework and made several quilts for AIDS babies through a program at Whitesboro Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are three sons and their wives, the Rev. Stephen W. and Sharon, Champlain, the Rev. Francis A. and Diane, Vernon Center, and Marc G. and Sandy, Gates; a daughter and her husband, Elizabeth E. and Kenneth Allen, Holland Patent, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Foxwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Ogdensburg. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Whitesboro Presbyterian Church.

Local arrangements are with Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, and out-of-town arrangements are with Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Whitesboro.
