Millwright

POTSDAM--Bernard L. Loomis, 71, Potsdam, died Friday in Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he had been a patient since Wednesday.
Mr. Loomis was a Class 1 millwright at Sisson Paper Mill, Orchard Paper Co. and Nekoosa Edwards Paper Mill until the 1950s, when he became disabled.
He was a member of St. Marys Church parish and Norwood American Legion; a past member and a former chief of Raquette River Fire Department, and a member of St. Lawrence County Fire Chiefs Association and St. Lawrence County Fire Police Association.
Born April 21, 1932, in Norwood, son of Leon and Ethel Richards Loomis, he attended Norwood schools.
He served in the Army from 1952 to 1954 as a cook, stationed in Dunning, Ky.
He married Rosalie A Rose on July 26, 1958, at St. Andrews Church, Norwood, with the Rev. Francis Maguire officiating. The couple lived in Potsdam. Mrs. Loomis died April 3, 1995.
Surviving are three sisters, Virginia Loomis and Ruth Garrow, both of Norwood, and Faye Gladding, Winthrop, and two half brothers, Harold Loomis, Norwood, and Francis Loomis, Massena.
A brother, Thomas, died in infancy.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garner Funeral Home with the Rev. Garry B. Giroux officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
