Irene G. (Hale) Moffett

MASSENA--Graveside services for Irene G. (Hale) Moffett, 86, were held in St. Peters, Mo.

 Mrs. Moffett died on Oct. 2, 2001 at the Wentzville Care Center in Wentzville, Mo., where she had been a patient for the past three years.

 She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Brown and retired U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Palmer Brown; three sons, James and Carol Ann Moffett of Canoga Park, Calif., Paul and Patricia Moffett of St. Charles, Mo.; and David and Marge Moffett of Dade City, Fla.; a sister, Alice Hale King of Massena; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 She was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.

 She was born on Feb. 2, 1915 in Norwood, the daughter of Frederick Solon and Bessie Mae Hale. She attended Norwood High School until her junior year when she quit school to work in Martin’s Paper Mill during the Depression to help support the family.

 She married James Moffett of Potsdam, a metallurgist employed at Alcoa. She resided in Potsdam, Massena, Norwood, Staten Island, Allendale and Ramsey, N.J. , before moving to Canoga Parks, Calif.

 In New York City she worked at Macy’s Department Store at Christmas time. In California she was employed as an operating room instrument technician at Canoga Park.

 Mrs. Moffett’s lifetime devotion was being a mother to her family and a loving sister.

 Memorial contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund of the Norwood First United Methodist Church, Prospect Street, Norwood.
