NATURAL BRIDGE--The funeral for Lucille M. Murphy, 86, Beartown Road, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hillside Cemetery with the Rev. Leo A. Wiley, pastor of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, officiating.

Mrs. Murphy died Wednesday in a fire at her home. She died of asphyxiation due to inhalation of products of combustion, Dr. Samuel A Livingstone, Lewis County medical examiner, ruled in an autopsy Wednesday.

There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.

Mrs. Murphy was an artist and a homemaker.

Born April 26, 1918, in Norwood, daughter of Earl and Nellie M. Senter Welch, she attended school at Great Bend.

As a young girl, she worked in the garment industry in New York City and then returned to the north country.

She married Harry D. Murphy on May 29, 1938, in Lowville. Mr. Murphy worked at Crown Zellerbach Corp., Carthage, and then was a mechanic at Fort Drum. He died Aug. 22, 1968.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Henry (Nellie) Grunert, Croghan; a foster son, Michael Leeder, Adams; a half brother, John McGillvray, Baldwinsville; a sister-in-law, Lilah Welch, Brasher Falls, and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Lyle Welch, and a half brother, Archie McGillvray, died before her.
