James L. Murray, long a resident of this place, died at his home on Pierrepont avenue Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Murray was taken ill a week ago Tuesday with erysipelas which grew worse until his death on Wednesday.
Mr. Murray was born in Norwood, N.Y. July 10, 1865, son of Robert and Ann Murray. He was educated in the local schools and in Norwood and for some years operated a stone quarry there.
In 1890 he married Miss Ellen E. Rutherford of Norwood and twenty-four years ago Mrs. and Mrs. Murray moved to Potsdam and have made this place their home since.
Mr. Murray was a man of genial nature, widely known throughout this whole north section with friends in every town. For many years he traveled for the Norwood News and the Courier and Freeman, carried on the home farm near Norwood and bought and sold cattle extensively.
He is survived by his wife, one brother George E. Murray of Potsdam and two sisters Mrs. C. A. Rutherford of Potsdam and Mrs. Della Shaw of Norwood.
Funeral services will be held this Friday afternoon at two oclock at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. W. J. Prout officiating.
