Lyle F. Newton

Assistant stationary engineer

NORWOOD--Lyle F. Newton, 78, United Helpers Canton Nursing Home, formerly of Norwood, died Tuesday evening in Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg.

Mr. Newton was a farmer and was assistant stationary engineer at Potsdam State University College.

Born Aug. 21, 1925, in Malone, son of James F. and Elizabeth Williamson Newton, he married Barbara Wake on April 12, 1952.

He was a member of Knapps Station Community Church, Franklin County Cooperative Extension and Norwood Model Airplane Club and was a former 4-H Club leader.

Surviving besides his wife, also a resident of United Helpers Canton Nursing Home, are a son, James, Williamsburg, Va.; three daughters and their husbands, Leila and Charles Crabb, Lisbon, Phyllis and Richard McDougall, Madrid and Mary and Lawrence Michael LaComb, Ogdensburg; a brother, Garth, Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Plattsburg; a sister, Welda "Betty" Blair, Malone, and five grandchildren.

His parents, his stepmother, Anna Dudey Thompson Newton, a brother, Howard, and a sister, Phyllis Gogan, died before him.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Knapps Station Community Church with the Rev. Leon B. Sweeney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Burke Center Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Buck Funeral Home.
