Retired Carpenter

NORWOOD--The funeral for Lloyd J. Oakes, 69, Hogansville, Ga., formerly of Norwood, was at 2 p.m. Sept. 4 at Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home, Hogansville, with the Rev. James Moon officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Hogansville.
Mr. Oakes died Sept. 2 in Veterans Administration Medical Center, Decatur, Ga.
He served in the Army for 20 years and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, receiving a Bronze Star for service in Vietnam. He had been a resident of Hogansville since 1969 and was a retired carpenter.
Born Feb. 15, 1929, in Norwood, a son of James and Laura Dufore Oakes, he married Annette Gaddy.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Cindy O. Lawson, LaGrange, Ga.; a brother, Richard, Norwood; four sisters, Doreen Valade, Marilyn Oakes and Nora Edwards, all of Norwood, and Dehlia Kulza, Fairbanks, Alaska; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
